Led by its founder, Naana Djan, this non-profit organization has taken strides to empower needy and willing women through free handicraft training. In a recent endeavor, Fritzwa International visited the female inmates at Nsawam in the Eastern Region of Ghana from June 26th to June 30th, 2023, providing a transformative five-day training in hat and purse making.

Unlocking Potential Behind Bars

For many incarcerated women, life behind bars can feel like a dead end, devoid of opportunities for personal growth and development. However, Naana Djan, the visionary founder of Fritzwa International, firmly believes in the transformative power of vocational training. She states, “Every woman deserves a chance to discover her hidden talents and build a better future for herself, regardless of the circumstances she finds herself in.”

The five-day training program conducted by Fritzwa International brought newfound hope to the female inmates at Nsawam. Learning the art of hat and purse making not only instilled a sense of creativity but also presented an opportunity for the women to acquire valuable skills that could lead to income generation and independence upon their release.

The Impact on Lives

The impact of Fritzwa International’s initiative was profound, touching the lives of both the inmates and the officers involved. Through intensive hands-on training, the women not only honed their craft but also experienced a boost in their self-esteem and confidence. One of the inmates, who preferred to remain anonymous, shared her experience:

“Being a part of the hat and purse making training has been life-changing for me. In here, I often felt forgotten and hopeless, but Naana and her team gave us a chance to believe in ourselves again. Now I see a future filled with possibilities once I leave this place.”

Beyond the inmates, the training also left a lasting impression on the prison officers.

Naana Djan and her team are actively working on creating market linkages for the handmade products, ensuring that the women can continue their craft and earn a livelihood even after their release.
